The Crook Boss is an intermediate tower that is unlocked upon reaching Level 30. Alternatively, it can be purchased as a gamepass for 400. The Crook Boss can be claimed through the Rewards tab.
Initially, the Crook Boss has low damage, a middling firerate and low range. However, with later upgrades, the firerate decreases and its damage increases significantly. The range also increases but is still quite short compared to other towers, such as the Minigunner. The Crook Boss has the ability to spawn Goon1 from Level 0, which with later levels get a faster spawnrate and double spawns. Additional, at Level 3, it spawns Goon2, which gets replaced by Goon3 at Level 4. Every time it summons an unit, it stops attacking for a second. Both Goon2 and Goon3 have hidden detection, though the Goon1 does not have any detections.
The Crook Boss can be considered an early-game to mid-game tower, as its cheap cost for medium DPS makes it a decent tower early on during the game. However, later on during the game, its capabilities are limited because of its moderate placement limit. There is a placement limit of six Crook Bosses for each player.

If you have other towers without placement limits (such as the Minigunner and the Militant) then it is best to use them after you have got six Crook Bosses
The Crook Boss can be easily upgraded to gain hidden detection for a relatively cheap price, meaning that Hiddens and Shadows can be easily managed.
Additionally, its Goon2 and Goon3 units can also target hidden enemies, making it quite useful against them.
The Crook Boss at level 3 is particularly effective against hidden enemies with higher health.
The Crook Boss is well worth its cost mid-game, and it does a decent job at dealing damage, especially when the goons are included.
In some regards, the Crook Boss is better than the Minigunner, but it does have a placement limit.
Do not rely entirely on the goons as their low health makes them vulnerable to enemy collision and abilities that deal damage.
If you are on a map where units can consistently target enemies from further away, such as Crossroads or Honey Valley, the units that spawn from the Crook Boss may prove quite useful in providing extra damage, especially against slower enemies.
You may also use towers, such as the Electroshocker, Toxic Gunner or Freezer, to slow down enemies, giving the units more time to shoot at enemies.
The Crook Boss was the first tower released that could be unlocked at a certain level, and also the first tower that could be bought with Robux.
The Crook Boss was originally a reference to the Mafia City meme.
Prior to the MEGA Update, the Level 1 upgrade description would mention that the Crook Boss gains a "gamer hat", despite not being a statistical change.
In the Frost Invasion Update, it was later re-added as the limit was never added in the Overhaul Update, though it was decreased from two to one. This limit would later change in updates.
The Crook Boss' Level 5 upgrade name, The Godfather, may be a reference the famous mafia movie and novel of the same name.
