Description
The Cowboy is an advanced ground tower that cannot be bought in the store, but can be purchased from the store for 4,000 after triumphing Badlands II. Due to a bug, the tower does not need to be purchased, instead appearing in the Gift Box. Alternatively, its gamepass can be purchased for 450.
While initially having a fast firerate, it deals only moderate damage, and has middling range compared to towers such as the Minigunner. On later levels, the Cowboy gains much higher damage and a faster firerate, though maintains a mediocre range. The Cowboy can also generate $25 cash every sixth shot at Level 0, increasing to $180 cash at Level 5. The number of shots needed for the Cowboy to generate cash can be seen above its tower icon in the upgrade box or when you hover your cursor over it. After firing the sixth shot, it will spin its gun for 1.7 seconds. The Spin Time is decreased at higher Levels, with the Cowboy only spinning its gun for 0.85 second at Level 5. This ability is extremely useful as a secondary source of economy and can even replace the Farm in certain conditions.
The Cowboy is considered an all-round tower. Its DPS makes it decent to defend early and mid-game, while its ability to generate cash can make it useful for the entire match.
The Cowboy has a limit of 12 per player.

Strategy
- While the Cowboy is decent early on during the game, it should be replaced with higher DPS towers later on, like the Accelerator.
- It can be kept for its extra cash generation. It can also serve as extra DPS to complement your main DPS tower, depending on your loadout.
- Early on during the game, you may want to place down multiple Level 2 Cowboys because of their cheap price, decent DPS and effective cash generation.
- However, do note that you may let some high health or hidden enemies get past, like the Abnormal Boss or Shadow. Therefore, it may be worth upgrading some Cowboys to Level 3 for its greater DPS and hidden detection.
- The Cowboy can generate a set amount of money every sixth shot, starting at Level 0.
- However, this does not give as much cash compared to the Farm early on. If you intend to replace Farm with the Cowboy, be aware of this.
- If you want to use this tower for cash generation early on, multiple Level 2 Cowboys can be quite effective.
- Later on, Level 4 or 5 Cowboys can be used for additional cash, due to their way lower firerate, higher income and lower spin time.
- The amount of cash earned can be increased even further with Commander's firerate buff.
- While enemies summoned from other enemies, like the Summoner Boss, and enemies from Mystery enemies do not give money when attacked, they still count for the Cowboy's cash shot, so the Cowboy can generate money that way.
- Late on during the game, multiple Level 5 Cowboys, with the Commander, can generate lots of money from enemies like the Mystery Boss or Breaker4.
- Additionally, you can increase the money earned by the Cowboy by placing it near the start of the path, ensuring that no other towers can damage enemies before the Cowboy.
- While the Cowboy cannot damage lead enemies, like the Lead, shots towards these enemies will contribute to the Cowboy's cash shot.
- Due to the Cowboy's short range, the DJ Booth can massively benefit this tower.
- The DJ Booth can also reduce the Cowboy's upgrade costs.
Trivia
- The Cowboy could have been unlocked from the Badlands map. However, this map was removed in the Wanted Dead Update and replaced with Badlands II.
- The Cowboy could have also been unlocked by triumphing End of the Line. However, this map was removed in the MEGA Update.
- The Cowboy has had many ways to generate money throughout the updates.
- Between the MEGA Update and Smaller = Bigger Update, the Cowboy was unable to generate cash.
- Before the MEGA Update, the Cowboy could generate cash with its Gold Rush ability at Level 5, which had a 4% chance to drop a money bag worth between $100 and $350 every time it damaged an enemy.
- Between the Smaller = Bigger Update and Overhaul Update, the Cowboy had a 12% chance (1% chance at Level 5) to generate between $60 and $750 cash, with the max amount increasing with each wave.
- This made the Cowboy generate an absurd amount of money for early and mid-game waves, making it a direct replacement to the Farm for many players at the time.
- Between the Overhaul Update and Wanted Dead Update, the Cowboy could generate at minimum of between $10 and $60 cash every fifth shot at Level 2, with the max amount increasing by $1 with each wave.
- After the Wanted Dead Update, the Cowboy can generate a set amount of cash every sixth shot.
- Before the MEGA Update, the Cowboy used to have the Gold Rush ability, which had a 65-second cooldown but increased its damage by 65% and every time the Cowboy damaged an enemy, there was a 4% chance to drop a money bag worth between $100 and $350.
- This ability was replaced with The Wildest of the West ability which increased its damage by 50% and had a 30-second cooldown. This was removed in the Overhaul Update.
- Weirdly, the store description for the Cowboy suggests that it generates money every fifth shot. This, however, is not the case, as it generates money on every sixth shot.
- Before the Overhaul Update, the Outlaw and the Cowboy were the only towers that a negative upgrade for an aspect of the tower. Currently, it does also have a negative upgrade, similarly to multiple other towers.
- For the Cowboy, this was the Level 5 upgrade, which decreased damage as a trade-off for a much lower firerate (thereby shooting faster).
- The chance for the Cowboy to generate cash with each shot was also decreased to compensate for the faster firerate.
- For the Outlaw, this was the Level 3 upgrade, which increased the firerate as a trade-off for much higher damage, similarly to the current Level 4 Ranger.
- For the Cowboy, this was the Level 5 upgrade, which decreased damage as a trade-off for a much lower firerate (thereby shooting faster).
- The Cowboy is one of the three economy towers in the game, with the other two being the Farm and Golden Cowboy.
- Between the MEGA Update and Overhaul Update, the store stated the Cowboy to be an event tower, even though it was not.
- The Level 3 upgrade name between the Overhaul Update and Wanted Dead Update used to be misspelled as Dualing Instincts when it should be Duelling Instincts.
- There is a community term named after the Cowboy that is called "The Cowboy Effect". It refers to towers with skins that feel the same and are quite similar to each other, as the Cowboy is such an example.
