Description

Autumn Falling is a map that represents the autumn (or fall) months of the year. This map has been remade several times since its addition to the game.

This map is included in the map rotation for Hardcore mode, as well as the regular map rotation for normal gameplay.

Autumn Falling has the Enemies Beta modifier, which changes the appearance of some enemies, replaces some enemies with other enemies and changes stats of some enemies.

Design & Path

The current version of Autumn Falling takes place in a forest during the fall season. The grass and leaves of this map were tinted orange to represent the autumn season. There is a river with multiple bridges above it that enemies use as a path, which splits the forest in half. The terrain of the forest is mountainous, with mountains surrounding a large part of the forest. Multiple wooden lanterns can be seen next to the black stone path. A small camp can also be seen on this map, with two green tents and a campfire.
The cobblestone path begins and ends at two caves on the two islands. The path crosses over three wooden bridges when it goes over the river.

The fourth version of Autumn Falling took place on two islands in the middle of the ocean during the fall season. The grass and leaves of this map were tinted orange to represent the autumn season. These islands were separated by a river connected to the same ocean. In the river, there were lily pads and a small grass mound. The terrain was mountainous, with mountains surrounding most of the islands. There were wooden viewing platforms and lanterns. A country farm house could be seen on this map. A pumpkin, hay bales and a wheatfield could be seen outside the house. A large tree canopy dominated most of the map.
The cobblestone path began and ended at two caves on the two islands. The path crossed over three wooden bridges when it went over the river.

The third version of Autumn Falling was exactly like the fourth version, except the bridges were humped as opposed to flat. The sides of the bridge were also open.

The second version of Autumn Falling was exactly like the first version, except that the baseplate water was replaced by terrain water. This version only appeared in Hardcore Testing.

The first version of Autumn Falling took place on a large island, though the island itself is surrounded by mountains. Around the map, there was a mix between slender trees and large tree canopies. Both types of trees had orange leaves. Several wooden cabins could be seen around the map, as well as campfires, pumpkins and hay bales. Lanterns also lined the path. A small pond could be found near the middle of the map, with lily pads appearing in the pond.
The black path began and ended at two caves. The path crossed over the pond on a wooden bridge.

Strategy

  • Most of your towers should be placed around the trees, specifically the area next to the river, as these areas allow your towers to cover most of the path.
    • This area also has a decent amount of cliffs.

Trivia

  • This is one of the few season-themed maps. Another example of this is Spring Fever.
  • Autumn Falling's name references both ways to call the season that runs from September to November in the Northern Hemisphere and March to May in the Southern Hemisphere.
    • In most varieties of English, this season is called Autumn.
    • In North American English, this season is called Fall.
  • During Hardcore Testing BETA, Autumn Falling had an Easy difficulty.
    • This version was similar to the first version of Autumn Falling, except that the baseplate water was replaced by terrain water.
  • Before the Overhaul Update, Autumn Falling was the most used map for activating the Hidden Wave, due to the large amount of cliff space and stacking potential for Outlaws.
  • In the third and fourth version of Autumn Falling, in one of the corners of the map, a humanoid could have been seen chopping down a tree that has a similar style to the trees in the first version of Autumn Falling.
    • This was likely representing an end to the original Autumn Falling map.
  • There used to be a bug on this map which would make some enemies and units stop moving on the first bridge from the entrance.
    • This bug was fixed on the 1st of April 2021, as it was used to easily kill the Imposter. However, enemies would still get stuck in Hardcore mode.
      • This bug would later return in the Frost Invasion Update. It was fixed again as it could be used to lag out the game by getting multiple Military Base units stuck on it.
        • This fix was achieved by slightly remaking the map so that the bridges no longer had an incline.
  • The current version of this map has a bug where you are able to place a tower on the edges of bridges.
